Its Classified - Classified ads assignment

First step is to go to this website:

http://www.careerbuilder.com/

from there you will need to click on the top where it says "Browse Jobs" in the white (picture below)

Once you have clicked that link, a new page will come up, the page will look like this:

If you are certain of what job you want, you can type your job name, and a location of where you would want to have that job. (the zip code for Hampton Middle is 22193 if you would like to type that in where it says Location)

If you are NOT sure of what job you want, you can scroll down the page, and click on the category you want. That will bring up a list on the right hand side. Here you can click the category that you are interested in.

Once you choose your category, you will be able to choose a job. For example, if you clicked on "Architecture and Engineering", this would show:

Architecture-and-Engineering-Jobs.jpg

and in the next page if you had clicked on "Aerospace Engineer" this would come up:

Aerospace-Engineer.jpg

You can now type in your location (zip code 22193) and click Find Jobs (in green).

This should be the same page as if you had typed in your job name and location from before.

Once you see a list of jobs, pick a job that you may be interested in. right click the link (the name of the job) and choose open in new tab (pictured below)

VERY IMPORTANT: switch to the new tab that was opened, and READ the entire classified ad for that specific job. Do you think you may be interested in this job?

Here are a list of things you should be looking for:
Is this a full time or part time job?
What do you do in this job, and do you have the skills and abilities to perform what they require?
What type of education level do you need (or certificates) to be able to get this job?
Are there any special requirements mentioned and what are they?
How much money does it pay and what are the benefits?

If the classified ad does not have the answers to those questions, you may need to open another tab or a new window in internet explorer or chrome, and google search the name of your job, with what you are interested in finding out. For example: some classified ads do not show how much money you will make at that job. You will have to search for what the average salary is for that job, to see if that amount of pay will be worth it to you. If this Job did not say, you would google "store associate - shift manager - grocery - retail average salary", and then see what google says about the job.

You can also google some of the abbreviations about the job and what they mean.

The Job Snapshot at the bottom has a little chart with quick basic information about the job. If you are interested in this job, then great, we will apply to the job in a moment. If not, you need to go back on the other tab, and right click on a new job name and find a new job you want.

Once the class has found jobs they are interested in the next step is to look for the green button that says "Apply on company website"
applyoncompanywebsite.jpg

if you only have a regular icon that says "Apply Now" in green, you will need to find a different job, as that is the generic application form that has no information to put in.

Here I will model an application, and then the students will also fill it out, part by part.

Students will make an account and save their information to be used later. Students can do this by opening notepad and then typing their information down and then saving the file.

AS YOU APPLY TO YOUR JOBS, PLEASE KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU ARE APPLYING TO.

OPEN UP A WORD DOCUMENT, AND TYPE YOUR NAME, AND CLASS PERIOD

THEN TYPE THE JOB THAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN

THEN PASTE THE WEBSITE ADDRESS

if you created a username and password and an email, make sure you write that down as well.

VERY IMPORTANT: Describe what this job is and does in at least 2 sentences (you can write more if you like) to show that you understand what the job actually is.
